First off, kudos to David Craan for that photo. Doesn't even look real. Looks like some kind of edit. But it's real.

That photo comes from a folder of photos that the school makes available to the media. Because we're not really allowed at practice very much, we can't get many photos to use in articles. So they provide some. And that photo was in the folder yesterday. Really cool. (Also, are we going to run onto the field through orange smoke this year? Because I think we might run onto the field through orange smoke.)

OK, so the preview is finished. And I'm as mentally exhausted as I've ever been. I think I might now understand what "some men just want to watch the world burn" means.

First I posted the PDF of the preview on the Slack channel because the people with access to the Slack are the people who get access to the previews for free. Then I emailed it to all subscribers who get the previews as part of their subscription. A belt-and-suspenders kind of thing where I make sure that everyone who is supposed to get it, gets it. The only thing left to do: put it up for sale for any non-subscribers who want to purchase it for $10.

But here's the thing. I think there's a glitch with the payment system. I know there's a glitch with some of the renewals (working on it). But I'm not sure if the glitch carries over to "here, let me pay $10 for the preview". There might be some way to test it, but I can't figure it out right now. So maybe I'll just... put the preview out there and see if it works. And then go to bed. And then either wake up to the payment system working or... the world burning.

Brumby says it's probably related to Stripe (the payment system we use) having about a four-hour crash today. So maybe that's fixed so we're fixed. But maybe not. Maybe I press this button over here and... nothing happens.

Normally I would face that scenario and triple-check things for two days before publishing. But I think tonight I'm in a "watch the world burn" mood. Or maybe just reckless. Basically, I just want to push the button and go to bed.

Here's the funny thing about the 2022 preview. I start out with a preamble explaining that I'm doing things differently this year. It won't be as long as before. I'm trying to increase the "that was enjoyable to read" and decrease the "that was a lot of information". When I wrote that part, I was expecting to reduce the preview down to maybe 12,000 words this year. Cut it in half.

And then I finished and it was 20,203 words.

I feel really good about the words. There's less information in this than, say, the 27,000-word preview I wrote a few years ago. But I feel like these are the best preview words I've written. The most entertaining words. Of course, that just might be my fried brain as well.

Let's just get to it. The next page will have a link to the preview. Subscribers who are logged in should be able to go straight to the preview (and if you can't, it's in your email inbox). Non-subscribers should be able to follow the link to get to a payment page. Pay $10 and then you can download the preview.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. If it doesn't work to the tune of "hey Robert, I paid $10 and couldn't access it", I can send it directly to you. Just email me at robert at Illiniboard dot com. If it doesn't work because no payments will process, well, I'll work on figuring that out in the morning.

Follow this link to (probably) get to the preview. And enjoy.

Never Have I Ever was, all at the same time, stunning, bewildering and awesome. Now I’m almost afraid to watch.

Not sure I detected a prediction in that last paragraph.......

I think he normally does the season prediction the night before the first game

Hi Robert,

I don't have twitter or any social media account, so I thought I could reach out to you here. I've been a subscriber since 2018, and season ticket holder (4 seats), since 2007. I look forward to the preview every year, and I thought everything worked ( green check mark in the circle), but it went back to the buy the preview page and said error). I tried it twice and got the same message. I just checked my BofA account and noticed my debit was charged 10.00 twice. You do such a great job that you can keep the extra as a tip. Could you send me the preview to my email?

Best Regards, Tom

I will email the preview to that email address and I'll refund the second payment.

Also, after sending that, I edited your comment to remove your phone number and email address. Just to keep the weirdos from calling you. :)

My subscription expired a couple days ago. I resubscribed to the orange tier, and also bought the preview by itself. Still can’t see it. Not worried about the money but I would like to read it

Can’t edit or delete comment, but I should have checked my email this morning. Thanks Robert

Robert I do not have twitter so I did not know how to reach out to you. I was charged 5 times (I tried to get it to work a few times lol) for the preview and I have not received it in email box. If you have trouble refunding that does not matter to me, just would like to read your preview. I-L-L

Robert on August 24, 2022 @ 05:55 PM

Going through right now and emailing the preview to everyone who purchased so... some might get it twice but that's not better than getting it at all.

I'm also refunding all duplicate payments. So if you did really pay five times, once the refunds process (3-5 days, they tell me), you'll have only paid once.

Robert... the "Down in a Hole" section... chef's kiss to you sir. Now I can't get the acoustic intro out of my head.

Just finished the pdf you were kind enough to email Robert. As I said in thanking you, technology - love it, hate it. But what we all love (and the reason we subscribe) is your passion for the beloved. Keep your chin up - 50 is just a stage! Some of us have a couple decades on you, and are still going strong.

I entered my credit card info. Seemed to go through. But couldn't connect to the article. Said "Error" Thanks; Garrett Alcorn gdaspud@aol.com

I'm still a valid subscriber at "The Seventeen", but I didn't get the email (I checked my junk folder, as well).

jhwaddell on August 24, 2022 @ 12:46 PM

Never mind - after much trial and error, I was able to download it from you link. I tried to delete my original post and got an error. I tried to edit my original post and got an error, so please disregard.

Robert - I believe, and checked, that I am a fully paid subscriber, but I can't seem to access the 2022 Preview. Am I doing something wrong?

Robert on August 26, 2022 @ 01:05 AM

If you are a Blue Tier subscriber you wouldn't have access to the preview. You'd have to pay $10 to purchase it.

If you are an Orange Tier or Seventeen Club subscriber, check your email. I sent it to every subscriber on those tiers.

Regards! My name is Ridge and I'm pleased to be at illiniboard.com. I was born in Denmark but now I'm a student at the University of Mississippi. I'm normally an diligent student but this term I had to travel abroad to visit my kinfolk. I knew I wouldn’t have time to complete my thesis, so I’ve found a fantastic solution to my problem - ESSAYERUDITE.COM >>> https://essayerudite.com/write-my-essay/ I had to order my paper, because I was pressed for time to complete it myself. I prefer EssayErudite as my thesis writing service because it’s reputable and has a lot of experience in this market. I received my order on time, with proper style and formatting. (thesis, 58 pages, 4 days, Master's) I never thought it could be possible to order thesis from an online writing service. But I tried it, and it was successful! I would surely advise this essay writing service to all my friends ;)
