The weather forecast just kept getting worse and worse all week. On Monday, the forecast said today would be sunny and 61. Then the mid-week storm kept creeping later and later on Friday. And then I woke up this morning to cold wins and a brief shower. Weather during the game - 55 and windy.

But after thinking that those six degrees ruined what could have been a great October Saturday, I found that I don't mind 55 and windy on a Saturday in Champaign (well, I don't mind it while tailgating - I'm inside most of the game). 55 and windy has its own "feels like home" attached to it. I went down to the field level with 4:00 remaining and as soon as the wind hit my face it felt like an Illini football Saturday.

And then a bunch of other things happened that made it feel even more like an Illini football Saturday.

I don't know Robert. I think you're a bit too much of a downer on this one. After listening I felt as if last week must have been a mirage and we actually lost upon further review.

I'm comfortable where we are at this point in a new regime. I have faith we will get better. Obviously we struggle to score. 24 points in regulation in our last three games. That makes it tough. To score 31 total instead and win 2 of those 3 a bit of wishful thinking.

As you stated, evenly matched teams. They seemed to have luck on their side. We complete a nice third down earlier in the fourth quarter and it's crushed by what I view as just a bad luck facemask call (not saying wrong call, just bad luck way it happened). Announcers said their punter was good, but those balls bouncing out at the one yard line really do require some good fortune (even for Blake Hayes). Their freshman qb throws a perfect pass on a well covered route. I think he accomplishes that maybe once out of five given same situation.

Also, I don't think the spot on our 3rd down run did us any favors. Seemed to me we lost 1/2 yard to his real forward progress. Not necessarily a first down, but an easier 4th down.

I've been thinking quite a bit that we sure could have used Josh 'Bebe this year. Hang in there.

I think it is really hard to tell how good of a football team we are. Nebraska didn't play all that well and we beat them. What could we conclude from that? Not too much. Then, UTSA came in and played what I thought was a superb game. Their plays were well-designed and well-executed. The same for Maryland. Their quarterback looked worthy of consideration for the Heisman. And then Rutgers today - very good execution of plays and good play calling. All three of those teams seemed to be ready to get after it. So it could be that we caught all three at the wrong time for us, that they all played above their normal level. I guess you can say we did the same at Penn State.

:-D tragically sad, but I'd rather laugh than cry.

Your SOC's have been absolutely amazing. Forget the naysayers and keep doing what you're doing. What's that old football saying about if something works...?

One thing that I've been a little surprised about is why people keep predicting the Illini to score more points? Even with the win at PSU, there was only one TD for the Illini and that was with the additional opportunities for TDs in 2 of the OT.

Since the win against Charlotte, the Illini in 3 games have punched the ball into the end zone for a touchdown exactly 3 times (and actually won one of those games).

Since the opener against Nebraska, in regulation time against B1G opponents the Illini have scored: 17, 9, 0, 10 and 14 points.

50 points in 5 games. Why haven't the Illini won more games? It's a mystery.

Some day it'll be a different feeling Robert. That's why we go to the games and don't quit on Illini football.
